Irrigating your lawns with proper measures is a major factor in maintaining your lawns. Providing insufficient water can decrease the health of your grass and can expose it to diseases. Overwatering a lawn can make the soil anaerobic or absent of oxygen and is more critical than under watering the lawn. Having proper irrigation techniques and knowledge can save your lawn and save water as well.

When we talk about lawn watering, there are many variables that should be kept in mind like climate, soil type, grass type, temperature, humidity, irrigation equipment etc. These variables will vary for everyone so it is very important that you understand all these factors about your lawn. We will discuss some basic points about irrigating your lawns.

• How often should you water your lawn? The best answer is “whenever it is necessary”. By this, we mean that some places will have hot weather and would require watering more often. So whenever you feel that your grass is thirsty, give it a little sprinkling. If we still need to have a schedule to water our lawn, we would say 3 times a week at least.
• The best time to water your lawn is early morning. Because afternoon heat and wind can make the grass look stressed and the evaporation is much more at that time, which means the grass will get less water. Evening watering can expose your grass to more diseases because grass becomes damp at night itself.
• When you are watering your lawn, apply the water thoroughly. Don't keep the speed so fast that the water will run off and won’t stay at one point.

There are many irrigation and sprinkler system available now but you should always have proper knowledge about irrigation if you want to keep your lawn healthy.
